Former Motherwell defender Max Johnston has agreed a four-year deal with Austrian giants Sturm Graz, that will net the Fir Park club a £300,000 windfall.Boss Stuart Kettlewell has already said the money is necessary, with the Premiership club operating on a deficit, even with the rumoured £500,000 sale of Kevin van Veen to Groningen.
According to the Daily Record, Johnston will travel to Austria on Monday for a medical and put the finishing touches on what will be a life-changing, money-spinning move.
Johnston impressed in the Motherwell first team after returning from a loan spell at Cove Rangers , and scored three times in the Premiership, which attracted interest from England, Italy, Portugal, France and Belgium. He turned down a contract offer at the end of last season to see what other options he had.Signing for Sturm Graz will significantly boost Johnston's wages, could bring with it Champions League football as they await the third qualifying round, and will net Motherwell at least £300,000 in training compensation.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
