Martin Scorsese is weighing in on the release of Barbie and Oppenheimer which he says was the “perfect storm.” “I do think that the combination of Oppenheimer and Barbie was something special.

It seemed to be, I hate that word, but the perfect storm,” the Killers of the Flower Moon director said in an interview with The Hindustan Times. “It came about at the right time.

And the most important thing is that people went to watch these in a theater. And I think that’s wonderful.” The simultaneous release of the films directed by Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan proved to be a box office smash for cinema and for the rival studios.

The event came to be known as “Barbenheimer” and was fueled by Tom Cruise sharing on social media that he had bought tickets to both films.
