Man City make £42m transfer decision over midfielder Pep Guardiola called 'incredible'

The loan move, which is yet to be finalised, will see Phillips leave the Etihad on a second temporary spell in 2024, having spent the second half of last season at West Ham.
His two years at City have been blighted by injury, poor form and a rocky relationship with Pep Guardiola since joining from Leeds for £42million.
Phillips was unhappy when Guardiola told a press conference he returned 'overweight' from the 2022 World Cup, prompting an apology from the manager earlier this year. Phillips ended the summer tour of the USA playing at centre-back, impressing in that role and earning praise from Guardiola.
