How to see Northern Lights tonight as phenomenon set to illuminate sky

Aurora borealis is expected to light up the sky on Thursday evening (September 12), illuminating areas of the UK in pink and green.

The phenomenon, also known as the Northern Lights, could be visible across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England when the sun sets, the Met Office said.

The weather agency said clear skies will mean Brits have a good chance of spotting the colourful light display in the early hours of Friday morning.
