Man, 53, arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after elderly woman knocked down

A man has been arrested after an elderly woman was hit by a car in Wigan. The 82-year-old was knocked down by a Toyota CHR on Gidlow Lane at around 4.25pm yesterday (Tuesday).

Emergency services were called to the scene and she was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car remained on the scene.

It hit the woman as she crossed the road near Knowsley Road. Officers at Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
