A man was left covered in blood as violence erupted on a tram following the Manchester City and Huddersfield football match on Sunday (January 1).

Manchester City had beat Huddersfield town 5-0 at the Etihad stadium on Sunday before the violent scenes broke out on a Metrolink service.

Video footage of the incident appeared to show a number of people becoming caught up in an altercation before a man, wearing a Manchester City t-shirt, is left with a bloodied face after it appears he was struck.

Head of Metrolink Danny Vaughan has said the transport service has been made aware of the incident on Sunday evening and that they are encouraging any witnesses, and the victim involved, to report it to the police.
