Lidl has announced that it will once again raise the wages for thousands of staff members in a move that could see some earn up to over £13 an hour. The sixth largest supermarket chain in the UK has confirmed that all of its 24,500 hourly-paid colleagues will see their third increase, following a previous pay rise in September last year.Starting from September, store and warehouse colleagues outside the M25 will see their hourly pay increase to £11.40 from £11.00.
They do have the potential to rise to a further £12.30 with the length of their service.Employees based within the M25 will see their hourly wages increase to £12.85 from £11.95, with the potential to further receive £13.15 depending on how long they have been with the company.
The move represents an overall investment of £8 million and equates to a combined investment of over £60 million into colleague pay in the past year alone. It also means that Lidl has managed to retain its crown as the UK's highest paying supermarket, beating out budget rival Aldi where hourly staff also received a third pay rise this year, rising to £11.40 per hour.
Ryan McDonnell, CEO at Lidl GB, commented: "These new rates of pay will ensure that Lidl maintains its position as the UK’s highest paying supermarket.
