Labour has committed to renewing the nuclear deterrent based on the Clyde.Keir Starmer has said that his party will renew Trident, with the Labour leader committed to building four new nuclear submarines.He has also pledged to maintain the UK's continuous at-sea deterrent and promised to carry out all upgrades needed for the submarines in the future.
The main base for nuclear submarines is at Faslane on the River Clyde. It directly employs thousands of people. The SNP has campaigned for a long time to remove Trident from Scotland.Starmer said on a visit to Bury in the north of England: “National security will always come first in the changed Labour Party I lead.
Keeping our country safe is the bedrock of stability that the British people rightly expect from their government.“My message to them is clear: Labour has changed.
No longer the party of protest, Labour is the Party of national security. The excellent former service personnel that are standing as Labour candidates are a testament to that change.
