And 15 years on the impact of the tragedy on Kym and her wider family is still immense. In January, Kym faced another blow when her beloved dad Dave died aged 78 in January after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer, and his death has left a huge hole in their tight-knit family.
But saying goodbye to her dad made Kym finally decide that it was time to bury her son Archie too, after carrying his ashes around for 15 years.
Burying them together gave the singer some comfort in her grief knowing that Archie will finally be laid to rest with his grandad.
