King Charles set to bring back old royal tradition during his Trooping the Colour debut

King Charles is believed to be making a major change for his Trooping the Colour debut this Saturday. His Majesty is set to take to horseback which will mark it as the first time in over 30 years that a monarch has ridden at the event with the last one being his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The Trooping the Colour parade which has fallen on the British Sovereign's official birthday for over 260 years will see the King take the salute as Colonel in Chief of the seven regiments of the Household Division at his Birthday Parade.

The parade will move from Buckingham Palace down The Mall to Horse Guards Parade where Charles will be greeted by a royal salute and carry out an inspection of the military on parade, the Express reports.The monarch will be joined by Queen Camilla and members of the Royal Family such as Prince William to view the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards Troop their Colour.The Sovereign's Escort will be provided by The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals.After the parade, the King will retreat back to Buckingham Palace along with Camilla and other family members for the march-past and fly-past, which will conclude the day's celebrations.Her Majesty's black mare, Burmese, which was a gift from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to the late Queen, was Elizabeth II's favourite steed for Trooping and ceremonial occasions.In 2020, the late monarch, who was a big lover of horses told Horse & Hound Magazine that Burmese was one of her favourite horses of all time.

The Queen, who passed away last September, used Burmese for 18 years until 1986 with the animal being moved to Windsor for retirement.The former monarch then decided to drive in a carriage for future appearances than replace her beloved horse with another
