Two thousand guests will gather in Westminster Abbey for King Charles’ Coronation to see His Majesty officially crowned alongside Queen Consort, Camilla.

Buckingham Palace says the service will reflect the 74-year-old monarch’s role today and looking towards the future, while still being rooted in long standing traditions and pageantry of the past.

It's the first British Coronation of the twenty first century – and the first in 70 years – since the late Queen Elizabeth II was officially crowned at Westminster Abbey in 1953 at the age of 25, having acceded to the throne upon the death of her father, George VI, in February the previous year.

But who are the central figures on the day of the historic occasion on Saturday 6 May? The King King Charles III was the longest-serving heir to the throne before becoming monarch on September 8, 2022, on the death of his mother Elizabeth II.
