Youths in Scotland have been urged to speak up over violence after a teen killer who stabbed a schoolboy in the heart was jailed for life.
Daniel Haig, 18, fatally wounded 14-year-old Justin McLaughlin with a knife at Glasgow's High Street Station on October 16, 2021.
The teenager plunged the weapon into his victim after he tripped and fell following an argument by the railside.Haig, who was aged 16 when he committed the murder, was ordered to serve at least 16 years in prison before he becomes eligible to seek release on licence.
Following his sentencing on Wednesday, charity Crimestoppers has encouraged teens to speak up if they suspect someone is carrying a weapon.The charity also wants to see young people voice their concerns if they witness others engaging in other forms of violence.Lyndsay McDade, National Youth Projects Coordinator at the charity Crimestoppers Scotland said: "As a mum, I can't bring myself to imagine the grief that Justin McLaughlin’s family must feel.
