As the future Queen, Kate Middleton's summers now likely consist of lavish summer getaways and Royal Family gatherings at Balmoral Castle.But before she met her future husband Prince William at St Andrews University, the Princess of Wales was living an ordinary life like the rest of us and was keen to earn some extra cash.Like many students waiting to start their further education studies, Kate decided to get a summer job but her part time profession was more unusual than most.Rather than wait tables or stack shelves like most teens, the future princess' job is said to have consisted of "back-breaking" work out on the open water, where she got to indulge in her hobby of sailing.According to the book Kate: The Future Queen by Katie Nicholl, the now mum-of-three was based in Southampton working as a deckhand on a fleet of Challenger yachts, the Mirror reports.According to Cal Tomlinson, who was one of the skippers Kate worked under, the princess "mucked in", "was very professional" and was "confident but very assuming".But despite her seemingly hard work and efforts, it appears that some of Kate's former colleagues were not as professional and once played a mortifying prank at her expense.

Kate was in charge of giving clients a safety demonstration that involved her showing guests how the vessel's life jackets worked.

According to Cal, one day her ex-teammates set her up with a humiliating joke during the demonstration but the future Queen still managed to remain professional.

He said in the book: "When she pulled the toggle, the thing inflated and a load of condoms fell out."She was mortified and very embarrassed.
