Kate Garraway has told of the 'emergency setbacks' her husband Derek Draper suffers as he continues to live with the damage caused to his body after contracting coronavirus more than three years ago.
The former Labour lobbyist caught the virus in March 2020 and was taken to hospital where he was put in an induced coma. Good Morning Britain star Kate has previously told how Covid 'wreaked havoc' on Derek's body and he spent just over a year in hospital before returning hom in April 2021, where he has needed round-the-clock care ever since.
While he's made some progress since coming out of his coma, he can still only say the occasional few words and is struggling with renal failure and infected wounds.
Another of Derek's struggles comes from his lungs as he can't breathe in oxygen nor breathe out carbon dioxide efficiently, meaning his body is "slightly poisoned all the time".
