A man has been jailed after money meant to pay his ailing father’s care home fees was squandered on clothes and takeaway food.Christopher Meppem also transferred cash to himself as a wedding gift and gave his wife thousands of pounds in a business loan.But he then ran up arrears and failed to pay £50,000 to the nursing home looking after his dad.Dad-of-two Meppem, 43, was jailed for 16 months when he admitted embezzling £56,332 between September 2015 and January 2019.Airdrie Sheriff Court heard that Meppem, of Kilbowie Road, Carbrain, Cumbernauld, was appointed financial guardian for his dad, Terrence, who went into a care home after developing dementia.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
