ITV This Morning's Dermot O'Leary announces career move to rival broadcaster

Dermot O'Leary has announced a new career move away from This Morning. He is part of a revolving door of hosts on the ITV breakfast show following Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby's exit.Aside from his usual Friday slot with co-star Alison Hammond, the pair have been filling in for the former main hosts alongside the likes of Josie Gibson, Craig Doyle, Rochelle Humes, Rylan Clark and Andi Peters.ITV bosses finally announced the permanent replacements would be GMB's Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley.

They will become the new faces of the show from March 11, meaning Dermot will return only on Fridays.The schedule routine means Dermot will now have more spare time on his hands during the week, as he announced an exciting new project in collaboration with the BBC.Aside from being reunited with Holly to present ITV's 2024 series of Dancing On Ice, the 50-year-old will be switching over to the BBC to front a one-off episode of Saving Lives at Sea, according to Manchester Evening News.They have been documenting rescues completed by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) since 2016.

As a long-time supporter of the RNLI, Dermot will take a closer look at the services’ involvement in the Second World War. The BBC Two special will see the star visiting various coastal lifeboat stations and telling stories from past crews.

Speaking about the upcoming project, Dermot said: “As an ambassador for the RNLI and a huge history fan, it was a privilege for me to uncover some of the untold stories that saw ordinary volunteers get involved in some of the most extraordinary events of the Second World War.
