A 60-year-old from Stockport nicknamed ‘Super Nan’ will take on the IronMan triathlon in Nottingham this Sunday, to raise vital funds for charity in her sister’s memory.

Maureen Wilkins, a teacher at the Seashell Trust where she tutors SEN and autistic young people, began training for the triathlon in January.

The mammoth challenge will include a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and finally a 26.2 mile run – a marathon thrown in at the end for good measure.

Wilkins isn’t new to the world of athletics: she’s previously represented Great Britain in duathlon championships around the world, and is a running coach at Stockport Harriers, where she co-founded an inclusive group for athletes with disabilities.
