This year will see the Royal family return to Balmoral for their annual summer trip, however, it will mark some considerable changes.Members of the family will enjoy a relaxing break, with King Charles and Camilla already heading to Scotland ahead of spending much of August and September on the Balmoral estate, reports the Mirror.It is expected that during their time in the country, the pair will be joined by other royals.Of course, the trip will be bittersweet as it's the first summer since the late Queen died at the royal residence last year.According to various reports, Balmoral was the location where Queen Elizabeth was happiest and her summer holidays were something she relished.So with a new monarch in charge, it is inevitable that some things during the annual Balmoral trip will change, while some will remain the same.

Queen Elizabeth always based herself within Balmoral Castle with various members of the family coming and going.However, Charles and Camilla will reportedly stay in Birkhall as their main base until Autumn, leaving Balmoral Castle without a monarch physically in residence for the first time since the 19th century.Birkhall is a smaller, more private residence amid the 50,000-acre estate, where the royal couple spent most of the Covid-19 lockdown and the King has called it "such a special place".Upon the death of the Queen Mother in 2002, Charles inherited the residence and has diligently turned it into somewhere he and his wife Camilla can happily call home.However, sources told the Daily Mail the King and Queen will 'decamp' to the main castle for official visits,
