As a shopping writer, I’m constantly on the lookout for the ‘perfect’ summer dress. But with so many boxes to tick, not all are up to the task.

A dress that is the right length for in the office or on the beach, that has a flattering fit but isn’t too constrictive, a light and breezy material that isn’t see-through, and which is colourful and fun without being garish.

It’s a high bar, but H&M’s new lemon-print range may have just hit the mark. The H&M lemon pattern featured on most of the collection is stunning, the colours are on the more muted side rather than overwhelmingly bright, and the cream backdrop is softer and warmer than a crisp white, for a more understated summer look.

With a Scillian vibe, these chic outfits are definitely coming with me for my next trip abroad. With other buyers raving that the lemon-print tiered strappy dress is “lovely and fresh”, one reviewer wrote: “I didn’t expect to love this dress as much as I do!” so I was pretty excited to see if the Scilian-esque dresses would live up to the hype. The tiered strappy dress retails for £32 and boasts a modest but sweet v-neckline and tie-back that can be altered for your desired fit.The elastic between the skirt and the torso is thin and discrete, something I greatly appreciate, and though the length is closer to that of a midi, it looks great as an ankle-length maxi if you’re on the shorter side, like me.
