'I thought I knew why I'd been in a coma for three weeks. I was wrong'

She had been unconscious for three weeks, placed in an induced coma after nearly drowning. "I remember being held down on the bed and they asked me, 'Is there anything you'd like to say? '.
And I just said, 'Tell my mum that I love her'," Kirah said of the terrifying experience. The aftermath of the coma was severe - she couldn't swallow or walk, forcing her to relearn these basic functions.

In reality, she was about to face being confronted with her diagnosis for a second time. The student had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in July 2022 at the age of 21.
