Jack Watts, 31, from Kettering, Northamptonshire, thought he needed to see an optician after he began experiencing blurred vision at work and having “pressure headaches”.
But his symptoms turned out to be stage four glioblastoma, a deadly type of brain cancer. The police officer is now being driven back and forth by his partner for treatment, setting him back £26,000 a trip.
Doctors discovered a tumour in the middle of Jack’s brain which is so aggressive they were only able to carry out three weeks of chemo and radio therapy before running out of treatment options. But Jack and his partner, Charlotte Patch, 30, who also works for Northamptonshire Police Force, were “not happy” with the doctors’ verdict and decided to take matters into their own hands by researching alternative treatments abroad.
They discovered a clinical treatment in Germany which could potentially extend Jack’s life by years, but each round of the immunotherapy costs around £26,000.
