How Eugenie and Beatrice broke royal protocol with non-traditional Coronation outfits

Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice broke royal protocol as they donned day dresses for the coronation of their uncle King Charles.

Arriving at Westminster with their husbands Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank, and their cousin Prince Harry, the Princesses wore outfits that were less formal than may have been expected at a coronation.

Rather than wearing court attire, Beatrice, 34, wore a vibrant pink midi dress, featuring statement puff sleeves, while her sister Eugenie, 33, donned a navy dress and coat.This break from royal fashion protocol was likely at the request of King Charles, says Rosie Harte, the author of the upcoming book The Royal Wardrobe.

Speaking exclusively to OK!, Rosie discussed Beatrice and Eugenie's outfits, telling us: "It's interesting that they're wearing day dresses, it's the sort of thing you would see at a royal wedding for example.Traditionally we would have seen them in full court dress, so white tie with a tiara and velvet cape. "And also a coronet, so all royal guests and all members of the peerage would have had their own small crown to wear at the time that the king and queen are crowned. "And that's all been completely done away with it's been completely stripped back." And it's not just Beatrice and Eugenie whose outfits have gone against expected royal protocol, with none of the royal guests, including Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, wearing tiaras.
