A number of houses were evacuated after a fire broke out in Stockport. The blaze took hold at a property on Atherton Street, a terraced street in Edgeley, at around 11am this morning (Saturday).

Three fire engines raced to the scene. The street was taped off by fire crews and two neighbouring properties were evacuated as fire crews began tackling the flames.

They spent two and a half hours extinguishing the blaze before handing the incident over to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

After firefighters left the scene the property remained taped off by police with an officer standing guarding outside. READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community It is not believed anyone has been injured.
