Haribo, the popular German confectionery brand, is a firm favourite for many, particularly at this time of year with Halloween fast approaching.

The brand's slogan "kids and grown-ups love it so, the happy world of Haribo" doubles as a handy pronunciation guide, yet it turns out many have been saying the name incorrectly.

Originating from Germany in the 1920s, Hans Riegel Sr established Haribo in Kessenich, Bonn. The name derives from 'Hans', contributing 'ha'; 'Riegel', offering 'ri'; and 'Bonn' providing 'bo', blended to make 'Haribo'.
