Hamilton boccia star "extremely proud" of Paralympics slot after tough qualifying fight

Steph McGuire says he is “extremely proud” after landing a bipartite Paralympics slot after having to fight his way back into the boccia world top three.The Hamilton star, who turns 40 next month, will take part in his fourth consecutive Games in Paris later this year.McGuire initially failed to qualify for the Games in BC4 pairs, but individually has won gold at the Sao Paulo World Cup and silver at the Montreal World Cup, propelling him back into the top three.Steph has battled back from adversity, having broken his leg and knee in a fall at his house in 2022, ruling him out for eight months, having ended 2021 as European champion.He said qualifying for the 2024 Paralympics would be one of the toughest challenges of his career, and so it has proved.However, he has secured one of the remaining places and hopes to come back with a medal.McGuire said: “I’m extremely proud to be able to represent Paralympics GB for the fourth consecutive GB.“There is no greater privilege than being trusted to wear our nation’s kit and showcase our skills at the highest level.“To secure one of the two remaining individual slots for Paris 2024 so close to the Games is incredible.“This cycle has been the toughest of my career.
