dailyrecord.co.ukHamilton Accies Women boss Robert Watson admits his side are exceeding his expectations, after following up last week’s six-goal show against Livingston with a 7-1 win away to Ayr on Sunday.Accies are flying in SWPL2 and scoring goals for fun to soar to the top of the table, but even Watson didn’t think it could be this good.On Sunday, a 21-minute first-half hat-trick from striker Josi Giard plus efforts from Lauren Kerr, Kirstie MacKenzie, Eryn Brown and Megan Quinn gave the visitors an empathic victory on the road.And Watson, whose side led 5-1 at the break, has been blown away by the performances.He said: “I’m really pleased with the start to the season that we have made.“It is actually beyond even my best expectations, which is a great thing in terms of how well the players have responded to what we are trying to do.“The weekend was great.
Ayr certainly didn’t let us have it our own way the whole game, we had to overcome a couple of challenges that they posed, but we were pretty ruthless in the last 20 minutes of that first half and really put the game to bed there and then.“We were under very little threat in the second half and it was pleasing to add a couple of more goals towards the end.“Things like goal difference you tend not to think about so early on in the season, but more goals just builds more confidence in the team and among the goalscorers.”Giard’s goal earned her a third hat-trick at the club and Watson was full of praise for his German forward.He added: “Between the first and third goal, there was only 21 minutes or something like that so she is pretty ruthless.
