Gutted remains of building after massive blaze as 'eight Scots homes destroyed'

Shocking images have shown the devastation cause by a fire in a Scots town after eight homes were reportedly destroyed by the blaze.Emergency services raced to the scene on Harbour Road in Nairn, Highlands, after the alarm was raised at around 1pm on Friday.

Residents were evacuated from the three-storey building as the blaze ripped through the top floor causing the roof to collapse.Pictures taken on Friday evening showed the gutted remains of the building.

Crews remained on the scene until the early hours of this morning and the area still remains cordoned off. Thankfully no one was injured but the local council said eight homes were left "uninhabitable".

Firefighters tackled the blaze for about 13 hours, leaving just after 2am on Saturday.A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: "Operations Control mobilised seven appliances and a height vehicle to the scene to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.
