Graeme Souness has named former Celtic boss Liam Brady as one of the top five players ever from Britain and Ireland to star overseas.
The Republic of Ireland legend was a huge name when he was appointed as manager at Parkhead in 1991 just a year after hanging up his boots on an illustrious playing career with his final stint coming at West Ham United.
That was after he had spent seven years in Italy where he moved to following seven years at Arsenal. Brady succeeded Billy McNeill in the Celtic hot-seat for what his first managerial job at the age of just 35 but it didn’t work out as he failed to break Rangers’ dominance - which Souness had created - and he was sacked early in his third season after two previous trophyless campaignes.
Souness stunned Rangers when he left for Liverpool just a month before Brady’s arrival but they were rivals in Serie A and, writing in his Daily Mail column, the Ibrox icon picked out Brady in a quartet of the players he reckons are the best to star abroad.
