Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has acknowledged the public's frustration over the Government’s reluctance to detail who will face higher taxes, but she assured that working individuals will not see increased taxes "on their payslip".
She further stressed the importance of the upcoming budget, stating it represents a choice between investment or decline for the UK.
Despite this, when questioned on Sunday morning broadcasts, Phillipson did not clarify whether a small business owner with an annual income of £13,000 would be considered a "working person" shielded from tax hikes in Rachel Reeves’ first budget.
On the BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg programme, she avoided direct answers, saying, "You are inviting me to speculate about the nature of the question that you’re asking," and reiterated, "What I’m saying is that when people look at their payslips, they will not see higher taxes."
