Experts name the common shower habits that could be causing your skin to dry out

People who suffer from dry skin, especially during colder weather, will be all too aware that it can be a real pain to deal with.Excessively moisturising sometimes isn't enough to get rid of the rough patches, and in some cases, fragrance only aggravates the issue and makes it more difficult to tackle.But before you make an appointment with a dermatologist, you should consider taking a good look at your shower routine - as this could be the root cause of your dry skin problems.

That's according to experts at Posh.co.uk, who have shared five reasons why our showers could be leading to tight and cracked skin.

They recommend being conscious of how long we spend in the shower as well as the temperature we set it at. Showering multiple times a day and using hot water can strip our body’s of healthy oils and bacteria needed for happy and hydrated skin.They also point out that using foaming body washes as well as loofahs and other exfoliators could be having a negative effect on our skin when used too frequently.Andy Ellis, home spa expert at Posh.co.uk, said: “A lot of people may not realise it but their showers could be their main problem when it comes to dry and irritated skin.“When showering we like to think we’re taking care of our body but the truth is using the wrong products and showering for longer than 15 minutes is probably stripping your body from the healthy oils it needs to stay hydrated.“To take care of your skin try limiting your shower time and keep the temperature warm as opposed to hot. “You might also want to reconsider how often you use your loofah or washcloth.
