An elderly woman tragically died after being unable to use her personal alarm due to a broken telegraph pole, her neighbours have claimed.
Locals in Maerdy, South Wales, say the pole was damaged after a car ploughed into it on December 1.Following the crash, elderly residents on Tan y Bryn were left without functioning personal alarms, which relied on phone lines.
The alarms allow vulnerable people to call for help if they are in an emergency.Ceri Coombes, who lives on the street, says she and several neighbours were concerned about the impact on a number of residents.
She said that she contacted service providers, Openreach, and the office of local MP Chris Bryant, but the issue had not been dealt with.Tragically, within days of Ceri raising the issue and it not being dealt with, an elderly woman died alone on December 10 after being unable to use her personal alarm, Wales Online.
