Greater Manchester GP surgery put in special measures after patients 'struggled to get through on the phone'

A GP surgery in Wigan has been placed into special measures by the CQC. The Care Quality Commission deemed Billinge Medical Practice to be inadequate after finding that patients struggled to get through to the practice by phone and had systems that did not identify, manage and mitigate risks.

The Recreation Drive site has changed appointment systems since, but the CQC report stated they have not yet got patient feedback to see if it is sufficient.

Services placed in special measures will be inspected again within six months. "If insufficient improvements have been made such that there remains a rating of inadequate for any key question or overall, we will take action in line with our enforcement procedures to begin the process of preventing the provider from operating the service.
