People suffering from a common age-related eye condition are being encouraged to apply for additional support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The DWP has included age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in its list of conditions that qualify for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), now the Adult Disability Payment in Scotland, or Attendance Allowance.PIP and ADP are paid out at the same rate and are intended to assist with extra living costs if you have a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability and struggle with certain daily tasks or mobility due to your condition.

This help is accessible even if you're employed, have savings or receive most other benefits.Upon reaching State Pension age, PIP and ADP change to Attendance Allowance.

This is a similar benefit, designed to help with additional costs if your disability is severe enough that you require someone to assist in taking care of you, reports the Mirror.
