A widower is preparing to take on an epic fundraising challenge for the region’s healthcare heroes. Jim McLelland will spend Sunday walking, running and jogging round the parkrun course in Lochside Park in Castle Douglas.

His One Big Thank You aims to raise money for staff at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and is being held the day before what would have been wife Ruth’s 67th birthday.

Ruth died last year at the hospital’s Alexandra Unit. Jim’s first wife Diane also died in the Alexandra Unit at the old hospital in 1994.

Jim - who used to run The Thistle Inn in Crossmichael - has already raised more than £10,000 but is hoping in future to bring in more.
