Doctors fans have started a petition to save the iconic BBC lunchtime soap from getting axed, after it was announced that it will be wrapped up next year.

Doctors has been on the air for an incredible 23 years, and fans were devastated to learn on Wednesday, 18 October, that the Corporation has decided to let it go due to a number of cost reasons.

As the BBC announced that the soap will be permanently taken off-air in 2024, viewers are pulling together to try and find a way to keep it.

In the petition statement, which has been posted on Change.org, a group of fans urged "the BBC to reconsider this decision and keep Doctors on screen".
