A disabled woman was left to clean herself with "wet wipes" and resort to using a bucket as a toilet after "cowboy builders" she paid £22,000 "smashed" her drain pipes and abandoned her home renovation project just two weeks in.

Mary Lukins, 59, from Southampton, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2016, hired builders on February 24 2022, for the purpose of making her semi-detached house "more accessible".

The plan was to build a rear single-storey extension and a downstairs bathroom. The work commenced on July 7 2022, following the receipt of planning permission.

However, Mary claims that just two weeks later, the builders packed up their tools and never returned, leaving her three-bedroom property with damaged drains and an incomplete conservatory.
