Detectives leading the search for Constance Marten and Mark Gordon's missing baby said they 'must consider' that it has 'come to serious harm' as they seek an extension to the pair's detention.
The pair were arrested in Brighton on Monday after being missing for 53 days, They were initially arrested on suspicion of child neglect but were yesterday further arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
Police have now confirmed that they have applied for permission to keep the pair in custody for 36 hours. The baby was not with aristocrat Ms Marten and her partner Mr Gordon when they were detained with a huge search getting underway. READ MORE: LIVE Constance Marten and Mark Gordon police press conference updates in search for baby - latest In an update today, detectives said this was a "hugely difficult and painstaking search operation" which now covered an area of Sussex spanning over 90 square miles and involved hundreds of police officers from both the Metropolitan Police and Sussex Police.
The Met have now taken over the search due to its scale Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said at a press conference this afternoon (Wednesday).
