Desolate ruins of 'time machine' pub rumoured to have dark past

The crumbling ruins of a once popular pub now stand as a monument to its dark past. Built in 1937, the Horse and Jockey was once an inviting country pub in Saddleworth, Oldham.

Situated just off the main A62 road from Huddersfield to Oldham, it served locals and those travelling between the two towns for over 60 years.

However, the pub was abandoned in the early 2000s and, following a fire that tore through the premises in 2007, it is now a derelict ruin.

In its heyday, the pub afforded magnificent views across Saddleworth Moor. However the Horse and Jockey became infamous as the place Moors Murderers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady were rumoured to have spent evenings drinking together before carrying out their heinous crimes more than 50 years ago, the Mirror reported in 2023.
