Dear Coleen: I love my boyfriend but hate his posh mates

I’m a woman in my 20s and I’ve been with my boyfriend for two years, and it’s going well. We’re moving in together in a couple of months and making plans for our future.

The only thing that’s nagging at me and spoiling how I feel about us is his group of friends from uni. I have nothing in common with them at all and, in fact, I really don’t like any of them.They’re all quite privileged, which I guess is fine – live and let live and all that – but they come across as being arrogant.They go away a lot together at weekends and I’m expected to join in the “fun”, but I hate these trips and find myself counting down the minutes until we can leave.I have zero to talk about with the other women, who all know each other well, and I end up shrinking into myself and being quiet, so who knows what they think of me.I have told my boyfriend I’m not keen on them or these trips, although I’ve stopped short of slagging off his mates.He seemed a bit hurt and just said I need to give them a chance and not be so closed off to meeting different people.Is he right or will this never work?
