Casualty has seen more than its fair share of on-screen disasters over the years – which you might expect, considering the popular BBC medical drama has been running for an incredible 38 years.

But while the medics of Holby battle to save lives in the busy accident and emergency department each week, the show – launched way back in 1986 – has also seen considerable tragedy off screen too.

Actor Simon MacCorkindale joined the cast in 2002 and played the character of Dr Harry Harper for seven years, but sadly died aged 58 after a four-year battle with cancer.

Meanwhile, Rebekah Gibbs, who played paramedic Nina Farr for more than 100 episodes from 2006 passed away from breast cancer aged 41 in 2014, and the actor who starred as original hospital porter Kuba Trzincski from 1986, Christopher Rozycki, died after an accidental fall in 2015, aged 2015.
