Charlotte Smith was one of four female Countryfile presenters who were unceremoniously dropped from the programme back in 2009 due to alleged ageism.

Also involved in the controversial reshuffling were Michaela Strachan, Juliet Morris and Miriam O'Reilly, who later achieved victory against the BBC in an employment tribunal. The ruling stated Charlotte had lost her job due to ageism.

During the proceedings, Charlotte had testified: "I was told by a member of the team that I would not be able to pass the primetime test because I was not young or pretty." Not long after winning the tribunal it was announced Charlotte would return to Countryfile after five years.

She made her much anticipated return to cover the show's investigative reporter Tom Heap while he was on vacation. Charlotte sensationalised the news of her TV resurgence on Twitter with a photo of herself back in action filming for the programme.
