When naming a new royal baby, there are certain traditions that the Royal Family like to stick to. More recently babies born into the family have been given far less formal names, however, they are still in keeping with royal heritage.

Nine of the late Queen's descendants are named in her honour, even if they don't share her first name. Princess Charlotte, Princess Anne and Princess Lilibet are all among the close relatives that have been named after Queen Elizabeth II.They could also be attributed to the Queen Mother or Queen Elizabeth I, who were all named after each other.

However it's clear that when the Prince and Princess of Wales decided to name their daughter Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana in 2015, that it was a nod to her great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II and her grandmother Princess Diana.

Similarly, when Prince Harry and Meghan welcomed their daughter in 2021, she was named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. As a result, Charlotte and Lilibet are both named after Queen Elizabeth II - with Lilibet's name being the Queen's famous family nickname.
