A special community gathering will take place on the outskirts of Castle Douglas tonight. The event at Threave Nature Reserve is the latest phase of the region’s involvement in the national Remembering Together project aimed at commemorating the coronavirus pandemic.

Over the past two years, DG Unlimited and the council have been working with greenspace scotland and artists t s Beall and Katie Anderson on the region’s contribution to the project, which has included more than 400 trees being planted across the region as part of the Dispersed Memorial Forest.

With the project in its final stages, a free community gathering is taking place at the reserve tonight from 6pm to 8pm, with activities including walks, story sharing, music and food.

And it will also see the installation of a special sculptural marker, including handwritten messages honouring lost loved ones and sharing stories of loss and resilience.
