Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Cannes snapper only realises something now from snap of Charles with Diana

The glitz and glamour of the Cannes Film Festival was in full swing as celebrities flaunted their toned physiques on the red carpet.Richard Blanshard, a then 22-year-old novice photographer, first attended in 1976 and served as an official photographer for two decades.

Unlike today's meticulously posed red carpet snaps, Richard's collection includes candid shots of stars at ease, working and celebrating.Many of these images feature in his new book, 'Cannes Uncut: The Golden Years', captured during a time when the festival was the premier platform for promoting or fundraising for films.

Richard recalls: "I was assigned to photograph Muhammad Ali when he visited Cannes to launch Freedom Road. He never once declined to have a picture taken.

He was a wonderful character, but his entourage was a scary bunch."In 1976, Richard was tasked with photographing Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly and set up a darkroom in a caravan.
