Callous Scots cop spared jail after stealing iPad and phones from dead dad's home

A callous cop who stole from a tragic dad after being sent to investigate his death was spared jail today. Alan Sneddon swiped an iPad, a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and another handset from John Green, 58, just minutes after he had passed away.Serving officer Sneddon, 46, was called out to John's home in Paisley, Renfrewshire, in June 2023 after he suffered a fatal heart attack.John's son, John Jr, 40, noticed his new phone was missing amongst other items, and decided to track the devices.

An iPad and phones were located at Sneddon's home in Barmill, Ayrshire and he was then arrested.He appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court and admitted the thefts.

He faced up to 12 months in prison but was today sentenced to a Community Payback Order which will see him supervised by social workers for 18 months and carrying out 140 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.The number of hours was reduced from 200 due to the fact he pleaded guilty over the crime.

As he spared Sneddon jail time, Sheriff Simon Fraser said he would have imposed a suspended jail term if he had been sentencing him in England.He added: "I'm not going to lecture you.
