BREAKING: Murder investigation underway after death of 14-year-old boy as child arrested following Harpurhey stabbing

A murder investigation is underway following the death of a 14-year-old boy stabbed in Harpurhey. A boy of the same age is being quizzed by police following the incident in the Manchester neighbourhood on Friday evening (September 15).

The child remains in custody. Police and paramedics were scrambled to Tavistock Square at around 6pm. The victim was worked on by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital.

In the early hours of Saturday, Greater Manchester Police confirmed the boy had died. His next of kin has been informed. Specialist officers are supporting his loved ones. It runs until 8.26pm on Saturday evening. A police scene is still in place. Detective Superintendent Phil Key said: "Firstly I would like to share my deepest condolences with the family at this unbelievably difficult time.
