A boy who died after a 'hit and run' crash as he tried to cross the M62 has been named as 12 year-old Callum Rycroft. It comes after a man from Greater Manchester was arrested on suspicion of causing his death by dangerous driving.

Callum, from the Harehill area of Leeds, was found shortly after 9:50pm on Saturday night on the westbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 25 and 26, near Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire, reports Yorkshire Live.

West Yorkshire Police say it is believed the boy was trying to cross the M62, just 20 minutes after a boy and a man had been seen walking along the motorway following a crash further down the road. The force say they had received earlier reports just before 9.30pm that an Audi Q5 was involved in a one vehicle crash on the slip road to Hartshead Services and there were subsequent reports of two people walking along the motorway.

Police found a man on the hard shoulder and took him to hospital for minor injuries. Officers from the force’s Major Collision and Enquiry Team (MCET) have now recovered the black Toyota C-HR car which they say was the car involved.
