EXCLUSIVE: Earlier this year, Hulu revealed that it was making a big push into stand-up comedy, taking on the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
The Disney-backed streamer has now signed up another big name to its roster – Bill Burr. Burr’s next comedy special, which was taped in June at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, will air on Hulu as part of the Hulu’s Laughing Now banner.
He joins Jim Gaffigan, whose special The Skinny, will kick off the push on November 22. The plan is to have 12 specials across the year with one launching each month.
Deadline understands that Hulu is also in talks with other big names and is close to other deals. Hulu’s move comes after Netflix somewhat cornered the stand-up comedy market, paying big money to launch specials from the likes of Chris Rock, Hannah Gadsby, Pete Davidson, Katt Williams as well as its most recent special, Hannah Berner: We Ride At Dawn.
