Casualty icon Catherine Shipton has opened up about how it's a "real shame" BBC show Doctors has been axed after 24 years on air, citing production costs and the need to update the set.The long-running series, about the doctors and staff at a busy Midlands GP practice, launched in 2000.The final episode will air in December 2024 and the BBC said it will be working to give the show “the finale it deserves”.
Doctors is set in the fictional West Midlands town of Letherbridge and follows the lives of staff at a NHS doctor's surgery and a university campus surgery, as well as their families and friends.
Hundreds of actors have starred in Doctors over the years and it's estimated that at least 800 guest stars appear on the soap every year.
Former Casualty star Catherine is back on screens as she makes her third return to Doctors on 3 October. Four years after saying goodbye to her beloved character Lisa "Duffy" Duffin in Casualty, Cathy was a fan favourite for her empathetic and resilient portrayal.
