A close friend is said to have revealed that Russell's wife, Jules, and their three children were at his bedside at the time.The Evening Standard reported that Russell had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Just four weeks ago, his fourth cookbook BRUTTO: A Simple Florentine Cookbook was released, charting the creation of the smash-hit trattoria of the same name in London and showcasing authentic and exciting recipes from Florence and Tuscany.
Russell caused ripples through the London restaurant scene by pioneering the idea of small plates, as well as re-popularising the Negroni cocktail.
